The most artistic conference venue in Finland
Lasaretti has been dubbed the most artistic hotel in Finland. And for good reason. The meeting facilities, the restaurant, the guests rooms and even the forecourt brim with an ample and comprehensive collection of paintings and sculptures.
The common denominator between the works is the fact that all of the featured artists were either born or are currently living and working in Northern Finland.
For example, Hannu Väisänen
Hannu Väisänen is a good example of the northern artists behind Lasarettis collection, as he spent his childhood on the very same island where his works are now on show!
Väisänen is known as a painter, a graphic artist, a performer, a creator of tangible installations, a textile designer, a set designer and an author. He currently works in France. Nevertheless, his novels, Pieces of Crisp Bread (Vanikan palat) (2004) and The Other Shoes (Toiset kengät) (2007), depict the artists childhood and youth on this very same island in 1950s and 1960s Oulu.
The glass wall that Väisänen implemented in Lasarettis restaurant room not only acts as an unusual partition wall but also as a stylistic sample of the artists aesthetic and technical innovations.
The Covenant by Charles Sandison is a never-ending, self-fertilising work of art that fills an entire conference hall with its silent, computer-generated mutations. Go to »
