In the middle of the city, yet far away from it all
Lasaretinsaari Island ? and Lasaretti Hotel and Restaurant ? is in an ideal location for travellers. The island is less than a mile from the town centre and the popular tourist attractions of Oulu Art Museum and Tietomaa Science Centre are only a stone?s throw away. That said, the island?s most powerful characteristic is still its closeness to unspoilt nature.
Fish ladder
The dam across the Oulu River is located right in front of Lasaretinsaari Island, which means that the hotel?s windows give out straight onto the water. And as there is a dam, there is also a fish ladder to allow fish to pass. Thanks to the fish ladder, which was built between the hotel and the dam in 2003, fish can swim up to the upper reaches of the Oulu River, beyond the dam.
Across the dam to the beach
The dam also doubles as a bridge. In just a few minutes, hotel guests can cross to the opposite river bank where ? completely unexpectedly ? they will stumble upon a popular beach just opposite the hotel. In the winter, it is the favourite spot of enthusiastic winter swimmers to come for their chilly dip.
