Why visit Oulu?

Oulu airport is the second busiest airport in Finland with around 900,000 travellers passing through every year. Flights to Helsinki are so frequent that people here use the same expressions to describe flight traffic as are usually used to refer to public bus transport.

Many of the visitors come to Oulu on business, to attend meetings either in one of the countless technology companies or the University of Oulu. Oulu is the largest town in Northern Finland. It has a very versatile economic structure and a strong focus on the future.

Some visitors come to Oulu to satisfy their hunger for culture. The theatre, film and music events in Oulu feed a large audience. Visual arts must not be forgotten either; for example, Oulu Art Museum is utterly fascinating and is conveniently located within the same parkland area as Lasaretti.

More and more people visit Oulu for its friendly atmosphere and convenient size. The sandy beaches of Nallikari, the lively pedestrian town centre, the many islands with their excellent cycle routes and the good amenities pull in tourist crowds from as far afield as the UK, Germany, Norway and Russia.

But even if there are plenty of reasons to come to Oulu, you don’t really need a reason at all. Just make sure you do!
